STONY POINT, NY โ A Haverstraw man has been arrested in connection with a series of early-morning vehicle break-ins that prompted multiple calls to police on November 25, according to the Stony Point Police Department.
Wellington Remigio, 37, faces a long list of charges, including grand larceny in the third and fourth degrees, criminal possession of stolen property, petit larceny, criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, and several counts related to drug paraphernalia.
Police say the first call came in around 6:15 a.m. from a neighborhood off South Liberty Drive. Over the next several hours, officers received eight complaints regarding thefts from vehicles. Security footage provided by residents showed an individual entering cars and removing items.
Investigators quickly identified a suspect, aided by the Haverstraw Police Department, which had recently arrested Remigio in connection with similar incidents in its jurisdiction.
As Stony Point officers conducted interviews and reviewed additional footage, they learned that Remigio was inside a business on South Liberty Drive. Officers responded and took him into custody, allegedly finding some of the stolen property in his possession.
Police also recovered numerous stolen items in a garbage can outside the Stony Point Budget Motor Inn. According to investigators, Remigio had rented a room at the motel on November 24 and left early the following morning. Officers say a search of his person also uncovered crack cocaine.
Remigio was arraigned in Stony Point Justice Court and remanded to the Rockland County Jail on $5,000 bail. He is scheduled to appear in court on December 1. Police say the investigation remains active.
Authorities remind the public that all charges are merely accusations and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
