New City, NY – A Haverstraw man has admitted to charges of sexual abuse involving two children and is now facing a lengthy state prison sentence. Alejandro Perez, 34, entered guilty pleas to one count of Course of Sexual Conduct Against a Child in the First Degree, a Class B felony, and one count of Sexual Abuse in the First Degree, a Class D felony, before Judge Anne B. Bianchi on April 16, 2024.
The abuse began in the summer of 2021 and continued over two years, victimizing two children aged eleven and fourteen at the onset. According to the Rockland County District Attorney Thomas E. Walsh II, the incidents involved oral sexual conduct and inappropriate touching under clothing. The young victims disclosed the abuse to family members outside of New York, who subsequently contacted law enforcement in Atlanta, Georgia, leading to a bi-state investigation involving the Haverstraw Police Department, City of Atlanta Police Department, and Rockland County’s Special Victims Unit.
DA Walsh emphasized the severity of the crimes and the message that the legal outcome sends to potential offenders: “This case sends a clear message that if you commit heinous crimes against children, you will be held fully accountable for your actions. Children are our most precious resource, and we must do everything we can to protect them.”
The collaborative investigation highlighted the importance of inter-agency cooperation in addressing such sensitive cases and ensuring that justice is served. The DA also praised the bravery of the victims for coming forward and aiding in the legal process, which he described as a critical step in their healing journey.
Perez is scheduled for sentencing on July 30, 2024, where he is expected to receive an eleven-year prison term, followed by ten years of post-release supervision. Additionally, he will be required to register as a sex offender. The case was prosecuted by Supervising Assistant District Attorney Gerard M. Damiani III, underlining the county’s commitment to rigorous enforcement of laws protecting children from abuse.
