Haverstraw, NY – A high-speed chase and tense standoff in Rockland County ended peacefully late on the night of July 19, 2025, thanks to the coordinated efforts of law enforcement agencies across multiple jurisdictions. The incident began at approximately 11:00 PM when the Haverstraw Police Department responded to a report of a domestic dispute involving a firearm.
Prior to police arrival, the suspect fled the scene in a vehicle while armed. Officers quickly located the vehicle traveling on Route 9W in the Village of Haverstraw and attempted a traffic stop. The suspect refused to pull over, leading officers on a high-speed pursuit that spanned several jurisdictions across Rockland County.
During the chase, the suspect’s vehicle collided with multiple police vehicles, resulting in the injury of one officer. The injured officer was promptly treated and later released from Nyack Hospital. Despite the collisions, the pursuit continued until it reached the Town of Clarkstown, where the suspect eventually stopped near Zucker Road and Old Route 304.
At this point, the suspect barricaded himself inside his vehicle, displaying the firearm and refusing to surrender. A multi-hour standoff ensued as officers from various agencies worked to resolve the situation safely.
The standoff concluded peacefully when the suspect surrendered. He complied with officers’ instructions, turned over the firearm, and was taken into custody.
The Haverstraw Police Department expressed its gratitude to several agencies that provided crucial support, including the New York State Police, the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office, the Clarkstown Police Department, the Rockland County Intelligence Center, Rockland County REACT, the Clarkstown Police CERT, and the Rockland County Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI).
