Nyack, NY – Hundreds of participants and spectators gathered at Memorial Park in Nyack March 2nd for the 18th annual Penguin Plunge, a cherished community event that raises funds for families of children with serious medical conditions.
An estimated 600 attendees watched as brave participants dove into the icy Hudson River, all in the name of charity.
Each year, the Penguin Plunge selects children in need of financial assistance for medical care, and this year’s fundraising efforts are dedicated to Brielle Gaine, Luke Garrecht, and Zach Dolinsky. The organization’s goal is to raise $150,000, with all proceeds directly benefiting the children’s families.
Since its inception, the Penguin Plunge has raised over $1 million and helped 39 children in their battles against severe medical challenges.
Orangetown Supervisor Teresa Kenny came out to support the plungers. She expressed thanks to the Piermont Fire Department Dive Team, who keep the participants safe, and commended organizers Barbara Noyes, Mike Lynch and the “entire Penguin Plunge crew for doing another outstanding job,” she said.
For those who missed the event but want to support the cause, donations can be made through the Penguin Plunge website. The organization continues to rely on community support to provide critical assistance to families facing medical hardships.
