Peekskill, NY — In celebration of Women’s History Month, New York State Senator Pete Harckham honored Jen Ritz, owner of Sweet Tees Custom Apparel in Yorktown Heights, for her outstanding contributions to the community and her philanthropic impact across the Hudson Valley.
During a special ceremony held at the senator’s Peekskill district office, Ritz was presented with both a New York State Commendation Award and the New York State Empire Award—recognizing her community leadership, charitable work, and innovative entrepreneurship.
“It is vital that we recognize the significant contributions of women in our local community and reflect on the legacy of women throughout New York’s history,” said Senator Harckham. “I am grateful for the work Jen Ritz has done in our community to uplift others and give back.”
A Lakeland High School graduate and Iona University alumna, Ritz excelled as a Division I basketball player and later dedicated herself to education and coaching before founding Sweet Tees in 2015. Her company, which began as a fundraising tool for Jason’s Army, a charity she co-founded in honor of her late friend Jason Needle, has since helped raise over $100,000 for Make-A-Wish Hudson Valley, granting eight wishes to children in need.
Operating out of her home, Sweet Tees provides custom apparel for schools, teams, and organizations across the region. In 2024 alone, her online store model raised more than $14,000 for local causes, combining community support with entrepreneurial spirit.
“The Hudson Valley has supported me through every chapter of my life,” said Ritz. “To be able to run my business here and give back to those same communities is everything. Thanks so much to Senator Harckham and his staff for the recognition.”
Women’s History Month, observed throughout March, serves to honor the historic and present-day achievements of women across all sectors of society. Jen Ritz’s recognition is a powerful reminder of the lasting impact women leaders have in shaping local communities.
