NEW CITY, NY – In a press release to Rockland News on Friday, Rockland County Executive Ed Day announced that Jenna Nazario has been appointed the new Director of Economic Development & Tourism.
Nazario steps into the role following her tenure as Director of Community Relations, where she managed the allocation of $63 million in American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) federal funds to support local revitalization efforts in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. In her previous role, Nazario spearheaded a number of impactful initiatives, including grant programs for small businesses, nonprofits, and urban green spaces.
Under her leadership, 29 small businesses received over $1.35 million in reimbursement funding, while 14 nonprofits were awarded $463,193. Nazario also led efforts to revitalize Rockland’s restaurant sector with $434,270 going to 25 establishments and championed the creation of 34 parks and playgrounds through a $6.2 million urban green spaces initiative. Additionally, she managed a $13.5 million housing loan fund for the preservation and creation of affordable housing.
“I am proud to announce the addition of Jenna Nazario to lead our Economic Development & Tourism efforts,” said County Executive Day. “Jenna’s deep understanding of the complexities in this field, ranging from job creation and revenue generation to economic growth and infrastructure development, makes her the ideal person for the job.”
Reflecting on her new role, Nazario said, “I am excited for this opportunity to build our strengths, foster new partnerships, and showcase the unique charm and potential of our county. This department is committed to driving sustainable growth, celebrating our local culture, and making Rockland County a premier destination for visitors and businesses alike.”
Tourism Set to Build on Prior Director’s Multi-Year Foundational Efforts
As the new Director of Economic Development & Tourism, Nazario is set to build upon the strong foundation laid by her predecessor, Lucy Redzeposki. Redzeposki, who held the position from June 2021 to August 2024, was instrumental in reviving Rockland’s tourism sector and developing relationships with external partners such as Alon Tourism, a global tourism marketing consultancy. Alon Tourism has been working closely with the County through initiatives like trade familiarization tours, with the multi-year aim of bolstering Rockland’s reputation as a desirable destination for both tourists and businesses.
Redzeposki stepped down from her post as Director of Economic Development & Tourism earlier this summer. The tenure – her second as Director – was marked by several key achievements, including increasing the annual tourism grant awards from $178,000 in 2021 to $275,000 in 2024. These grants supported local organizations and events like the Haverstraw Eats and Beats Festival, which has become a major draw for visitors. Additionally, Redzeposki helped raise Rockland’s profile through events such as the Travel Trade Familiarization Tour and Marketplace, which connected local businesses with broader economic opportunities.
Redzeposki’s leadership also played a critical role in positioning Rockland County as a key player in the growing technology sector, with projects like the DataBank Orangeburg initiative bringing attention to the region’s potential as a hub for tech-driven business.
According to Day, Nazario – with her extensive experience and track record of success, is well-positioned to continue the mission of driving economic development and attracting quality tourism to the area. As she steps into this new leadership role, over 30 annual recipients of grants from the Tourism Department look forward to further strengthening its tourism and economic sectors, building on the strong relationships already established with key partners like Alon Tourism.
An initial workshop with grant recipients, as well as those interested in participating in the 2025 program, is set to be held in Nyack at the RCC Hospitality & Culinary Arts Center, 70 Main Street, Nyack, NY, from 10 am to 1:00 pm.
