West Nyack, NY — Members of Leadership Rockland took part in an informative and inspiring Environmental Day this week, featuring a special presentation and tour of the Town of Clarkstown’s solar field, located on the capped landfill in West Nyack.
Supervisor George Hoehmann served as guest speaker for the day, offering insight into the development and impact of the project. The solar field, the first of its kind in New York State, has significantly reduced the Town’s energy costs, saving taxpayers thousands of dollars annually.
Participants also enjoyed a panoramic view of the solar array from atop the landfill, highlighting the innovative use of previously unused space for clean energy generation.
The day’s activities continued with a tour of the Rockland County Solid Waste Management Authority’s transfer station facilities, providing a deeper understanding of the county’s environmental infrastructure and waste management practices.
