Saturday Spotlight: Metal and Stone Jewelers with Beverly Gopin
Tell me a bit about your background. What did you do before starting your business?
Seth and I have both been in this business for over 45 years each. For me starting with wholesale loose gems and for Seth graduating from the GIA and then working as a jeweler. After that we worked in almost every category of fine jewelry. From merchandising 14 Saks Fifth Avenue stores around the country with a designer line, to being in the stores themselves promoting the collection. After working for a few years for other people we decided to give our own business a chance. We started small in a cute shop up Main Street in Nyack (we’ve always loved Nyack) and before you know it the space that we’re in now opened up and we’ve been here ever since. So, in total we’ve been in Nyack almost 33 years.
Why did you start your business?
We’ve always loved this business. Everyday we get to make people happy and create memories that last generations with the pieces we create for them or from the jewelry designers we carry.
Who is your target customer?
Our target client is anyone who appreciates a fine piece of jewelry from the simplest design to the most intricate, using precious metals and any precious stone you can think of. We’re here for people who choose to have something different and we love to educate our clients on what is available in the jewelry industry that they may not realize.
What does your business offer?
We do everything that has to do with fine jewelry and watches. All repairs, appraisals, custom design, metal liquidation, and any gemological service you might need.
Where do you see your business in the future?
The future for Metal and Stone is just reaching out to new people that can appreciate what we can offer them as a jeweler. We love what we do and just want to continue on our path.
Do you have any events or promotions coming up?
We are having our Holiday Italian Jewelry show Wednesday, December 10th and Thursday December 11th featuring the designs of Garavelli (PIctures show Garavelli designs.) They are a fabulous designer that we’ve been working with for over 25 years. They have designs from the most classic to the most creative using fine gemstones, 18K gold, and other fine metals as well. And they are lovely people which to us is the most important.
Is there anything else we should know?
We love Nyack and are so grateful that Metal and Stone has a home here. We also love supporting Nyack’s needs in whatever way we can.
