St. Thomas Aquinas College had the distinct privilege of hosting renowned civil rights leader and global humanitarian, Martin Luther King III, for an inspiring fireside chat as part of its Black History Month celebrations.
Addressing an audience of over 500 attendees, which included St. Thomas Aquinas College students, as well as high school students, Mr. King delivered a message of hope, change, and social justice. As the son of the iconic Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Mrs. Coretta Scott King, Martin Luther King III has dedicated his life to advocating for global human rights and combating racism, violence, and poverty.
St. Thomas Aquinas College President Ken Daly expressed gratitude for Mr. King’s presence, emphasizing the profound impact of his words on the college community. President Daly underscored the college’s commitment to social justice and equity through initiatives like the Social Justice and Equity Forum and the Justice Studies Institute.
In a fireside chat moderated by CBS anchor Maurice DuBois, Mr. King shared poignant memories of his parents and their unwavering dedication to nonviolent social change. He urged students to recognize their unlimited potential and strive for excellence in their academic pursuits.
As a token of appreciation, President Daly presented Mr. King with the prestigious Aquinas Medal Award, which honors individuals who illuminate truth and knowledge. The award was bestowed in recognition of Mr. King’s tireless advocacy and dedication to advancing social justice causes worldwide.
