POMONA, NY – The New York Boulders surged into the postseason, after capping a remarkable final stretch of the regular season with four consecutive wins, a playoff-clinching victory, and a weekend sweep of the East Division champion Sussex County Miners.
With momentum on their side and a roster brimming with standout performers, the Boulders now prepare for their first Frontier League playoff appearance since 2022.
Final Push to the Postseason
The Boulders (52-43) completed their regular season with a 4-2 win over Sussex County on Sunday night at Skylands Stadium. The victory marked a three-game sweep of the Miners and punctuated a week of high-stakes baseball that saw New York go 4-0 while securing the final Wild Card spot in the Atlantic Conference.
The regular season finale showcased solid pitching and timely hitting. Third baseman Fritz Genther tied the game with an RBI single in the third inning, and first baseman Christian Ficca gave the Boulders a permanent lead in the sixth with a double. Left-handed starter Mitchell Senger (3-1) earned the win with five strong innings, while the bullpen trio of Cole Patten, Parker Kruglewicz, and Aidan Risse shut the door. Risse collected his first professional save.
Clinch Night: Drama and History
On Saturday, New York officially clinched its playoff berth with a 6-2 win over the Miners and help from the Tri-City ValleyCats, who eliminated the Ottawa Titans with a 5-4 win in Canada. The Boulders surged early with four runs in the first two innings. Shortstop Austin Dennis made franchise history by notching his 136th hit of the season, breaking David Vinsky’s 2022 single-season record.
Dennis, who finished the regular season with 139 hits, also logged 97 runs (2nd all-time in club history), batted .342 (2nd), and stole 43 bases (T-3rd). The game was a showcase of well-rounded performance: Garrett Cooper (9-2) delivered 5.1 innings for the win, while the bullpen stranded six of the Miners’ 13 runners.
Setting the Stage: A Wild Finish in the Wild Card Race
Friday’s series opener saw the Boulders reclaim the Wild Card lead in dramatic fashion with a 4-3 win in 10 innings. Dennis once again played hero with the go-ahead RBI single in the 10th. Tyler Vail, the league’s top relief pitcher, was dominant in closing the game and picked up his fifth win.
Earlier in the week, New York delivered its most emphatic statement yet with a 13-4 rout of the Ottawa Titans on Thursday night. The offensive explosion featured a six-run seventh inning and strong showings by Jason Agresti, Fritz Genther, and Santino Rosso.
