STONY POINT, NY – Supervisors from several Rockland County Towns began reporting on Monday morning that the massive Optimum Online outage that left thousands without internet access over the weekend, is finally coming to an end. However, as of 3 pm today – residents in several Towns across Rockland still reported no Internet.
This smattering of outages is still in process of being fixed. Most Internet subscribers received Internet service in the early morning hours of Monday 8/5.
Earlier today, Clarkstown Supervisor George Hoehmann notified the public on Facebook that services were down due to a serious traffic accident in New City, that destroyed utility equipment from Optimum. This, coupled with severe storms over the weekend, left thousands without home/office Internet access.
Supervisor Howard Phillips from Haverstraw also notified the public on Facebook, indicating that he and the other Town Supervisors received a briefing from Optimum’s Government Liason, and advised residents to now restart their routers if they are still experiencing issues.
Phillips also indicated that customers can indeed be reimbursed for lost Internet time, by calling Optimum customer support at 845-429-4927.
Residents across Rockland took to Facebook community groups to voice their frustration en masse, complaining that they had not received any updates from the company itself, and had to reach out to Optimum in order to find out their status.
