The Tappan Fire Department and Supervisor Kenny led a robust team of volunteers on the first day of the Great American Cleanup, making a significant impact on the local environment. Meeting at the Tappan Firehouse, 80 community members gathered early, equipped with the enthusiasm and the necessary supplies to tackle the litter across Orangetown.
Throughout the day, volunteers worked diligently, navigating various areas of the town to collect and bag trash, ultimately gathering approximately 60 bags of garbage. This commendable effort by the volunteers not only beautified the community but also promoted a sense of pride and unity among the residents. The collected waste was efficiently picked up by the Orangetown Highway Department the following Monday, ensuring a swift cleanup process.
A key highlight of the event was the community support from local businesses, which added a layer of warmth and gratitude towards the volunteers. The Tappan Fire Department and NoCo Kitchen played pivotal roles by providing meals for the volunteers, a gesture that underscored the community spirit and collaboration inherent in Orangetown.
Supervisor Kenny expressed her gratitude towards all participants: “Today’s effort by each volunteer demonstrates our community’s commitment to not only improving our environment but also strengthening our communal bonds. A special thanks to the Tappan Fire Department and NoCo Kitchen for their generous support.”
The Great American Cleanup day in Orangetown not only led to the removal of trash from the streets but also ignited a collective community spirit, setting a positive example and encouraging ongoing participation in environmental stewardship activities.
