Upper Nyack’s Energy Program: Guaranteed Rate/ Strong Consumer Protection

Upper Nyack is proud to participate in the Rockland Community Power (RCP), a collaborative municipal clean energy program.   In addition to providing 100% renewable energy at lower prices than available elsewhere, the village program also offers strong consumer protection.

Strong Consumer Protection:

Some residents have asked whether the same kinds of steep price increases that occurred in Texas in February could happen here too.  The good news is that the village program protects you from all price increases with a guaranteed rate for the life of the program.

The guaranteed rates also protect consumers from predatory pricing.  Many ESCOs (third party suppliers) sign consumers up for energy at low introductory prices, but raise the rates once the introductory period is over – and often quite sharply.  Some of these offers are made in mailings to your house.  Letters from the village program will come only on village letterhead and signed by the Village Supervisor.  The village program does not knock on doors or make unsolicited calls.  You can always check with our office at (845) 358-0084.

The village program also protects consumers by ensuring that there are no exit fees for any aspect of the village program.  You can always enter or exit the village program at any time with no penalty.  There is also no contract for consumers with the basic electric supply.

In addition to your basic electric supply, community solar is also available through the village program, again, with stronger consumer protection.  Through the village energy program, consumers can benefit from a guaranteed discount on their electric bills, while supporting the development of local renewable energy.  Many community solar companies charge hefty exit fees.  While there is currently a contract to sign for the RCP Community Solar program, there are no exit fees.

Your Energy Choice

By now, each of you should have the energy option of your choice.  If you chose to take advantage of one of the RCP electricity supply options, you should see Constellation NewEnergy CCA, the supplier for the RCP program, listed on the third page of your O&R bill.  If the option of your choice is not listed on your bill or you want help understanding your bill, please give us a call Monday to Friday, 9 to 5, at 845 859-9099 option 1 or email info@RocklandCommunityPower.com.

Your Community Program

This is your community program.  The Community Coordinator is always available for presentations to your community group and to answer your questions.  Please get in touch at Peggy@JouleCommunityPower.com or call 845 859-9099 option 1.

Statement from County Executive Ed Day regarding mass vaccination site at RCC

The opening of Rockland Community College as a mass vaccination site will have an immediate impact on our county as we continue to grapple with one of the highest infection rates in New York State. I appreciate all of our residents and the local elected officials who spoke out in support of our efforts of opening a mass vaccination site and I thank the Governor and his staff for listening to our concerns and stepping up to help protect the people of Rockland.

We are making progress in our battle against this disease and with the increased availability of vaccine through this site we expect a significant benefit to local residents. I encourage Rocklanders to take advantage of this opportunity to get vaccinated right here in their home county; we spent months fighting for this site and now we must put it to use.
