Donations are being requested for the 30 families displaced by the fire Wednesday in a Spring Valley apartment building. Rockland County Legislator Aron Wieder says they need baby clothes, formula, diapers & wipes; bottled water; toiletries and personal hygiene products; toys for kids; and gift cards. You can drop off the items from 7am until 2:30pm today at Spring Valley High School on Route 59. Legislator Wieder singled out the efforts of volunteer firefighter Evan Humphrey, who made his way to the seventh-floor where the fire had trapped several people. He found a two year-old boy and several others there and led them out to safety. Humphrey, who celebrated his 42nd birthday Wednesday, is also a Spring Valley Fire Inspector and is working to determine the cause of the blaze.
