A Spring Valley man faces murder charges after a woman was found dead in their apartment early Friday morning after a welfare check. That’s according to News 12. 37 year-old Warle Fernandez-Arias pleaded not guilty Friday night after being charged with second degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon. Spring Valley Police said he allegedly stabbed 36-year-old Carolyn Canela in the back with a large kitchen knife in their Sneden Place West apartment. Spring Valley police ask anyone with information about the incident to contact them at at 845-356-7400. Fernandez-Arias is due back in court on Wednesday.
Injuries in Two Fires Sunday in Rockland Two firefighters suffered minor injuries after an early-morning house fire yesterday in Spring Valley. It took place around 4:30 Sunday morning at 17 Slinn Avenue, with more than a dozen departments responding. No word on damage or the cause of the blaze. WABC-TV reported that 63 adults and 23 children were displaced due to the blaze, with some staying at the Louis Kurtz Center. News 12 says the Red Cross has a reception center open at 200 North Main Street to support anyone displaced due to the fire.
One person was injured after a fire at an apartment in West Nyack Sunday. News 12 reported the fire began in the kitchen of the 82 Demarest Avenue apartment. The resident was treated for burns to the hands.
