Local officials continue to search for ways to make sure Monsey residents call 911 in case of an emergency over a so-called “rogue fire department” that is offering an alternative service to the trained personnel who work within the county emergency response system. In a post on Facebook, the town of Ramapo urged residents to call 911 for emergencies, and have said they are looking into whether the “Monsey Fire Brigade” is breaking any laws or getting in the way of Rockland volunteers when they respond to emergencies. “Morning Show” caller Maryanne was concerned people could get hurt…
In a statement earlier this week, Rockland County Executive Ed Day said sending untrained personnel into a fire or emergency risks the lives of people and firefighters. In addition to the safety issues, Day and Chris Kear are both concerned that the “Monsey Fire Brigade” isn’t equipped, for example, to notify utility companies for hazards at emergency scenes.
