Sunday marks the 21st anniversary of the terror attacks on New York City, Washington D.C. and the crash of United Airlines Flight 93 in Pennsylvania. Rockland has several events this weekend and next week commemorating that infamous day. RCC is hosting the first event, it’s this morning at their 9/11 Memorial from 8 to 8:30. Stony Point’s candlelight remembrance ceremony is Sunday night at 7pm at town hall. Clarkstown’s ceremony is Sunday at 5pm at town hall, and Orangetown’s eremony is at Veterans Memorial Park at 12:30 Sunday. The county’s 9/11 event is Sunday morning at 8:30 at Haverstraw Bay County Park. Seating there is limited, but the event will also be live-streamed on the Rockland County Government Facebook page.
Tuesday night Haverstraw’s 9/11 Memorial Ceremony gets underway at seven at Haverstraw Town Hall, featuring the Rockland County Marine Corps League.
Clover Stadium in Pomona hosts the annual Heroes Baseball Classic between the NYPD and FDNY tomorrow night at 6:30. Proceeds from the game will go to the Widows and Children’s Fund, as well as the Stephen Siller Foundation.
Other events are being held in Nyack, Suffern, Tappan, and West Haverstraw:
Nyack: Hometown Heroes Remembrance takes place from 6:30-7 p.m. at Memorial Park, 51 Piermont Ave., Nyack. The event remembers those who were lost on 9/11 and those who have died since due to illness related to Ground Zero. Please enter Memorial Park from the Marina, using the footbridge for access. Suffern: The ceremony will be held at 2pm Sunday outside of Suffern Village Hall, 61 Washington Avenue. All, including Veteran groups, Scout troops, and the public are invited to attend.
Tappan: A remembrance ceremony will begin at 8:30am Sunday at the Tappan Memorial Triangle, 16 Old Tappan Road.
West Haverstraw: The Remembrance Day Candle Lighting Ceremony will begin Sunday at 7pm at Peck’s Pond Park.
