The Rockland County Legislature is expected to vote tonight on a plan that would let the county take over the Village of Spring Valley’s building code duties. In a statement issued last night, Rockland County Executive Ed Day said he has submitted the proposed $1.5 million budget for the Office of Buildings and Codes to the Rockland County Legislature for their approval. The budget includes funding for staff, equipment, computer software and more. They’ll need at least 12 full- and part-time Building and Fire Inspectors and five support staff, and possibly contractors. The group would occupy space in the Pomona Health Complex. Former Suffern Mayor and NYPD Officer Ed Markunas is being tapped to serve as director, pending approval.
