For longtime pizza man Frank, Pearl River Pizzeria is about more than slices and deliveries. It is about consistency, community and making customers feel at home.
Located at 137 North Middletown Road in Pearl River, Pearl River Pizzeria has built its identity around a classic neighborhood feel, blending old-school pizza shop comfort with a modern local hangout atmosphere.

At the center of that experience is Frank, the manager, who brought decades of pizza-business experience with him when he arrived in Pearl River four years ago.
“I’ve been doing it since the age of 17,” Frank said during a recent interview, reflecting on a career that began in Stony Point and has now spanned roughly three decades in the pizza business.
A North Rockland native, Frank said his path through local pizzerias eventually brought him to Pearl River, where he now helps lead a restaurant known for its welcoming atmosphere, reliable menu favorites and specialty grandma pie.
Asked what makes the pizza stand out, Frank credited the owners’ roots and inspiration.
“The owners, I believe they went to Italy and brought their style and brought it over here,” he said.
Pearl River Pizzeria is part of a small family of related shops that includes locations in New City and elsewhere in Rockland County, with the stores sharing ideas, staff support and the same signature grandma-pizza approach. Frank said that while many places offer a grandma slice, Pearl River Pizzeria does something different with its square pies.
“We definitely do something different with the square shells,” he said. “That’s definitely unique that no one does.”
That grandma slice was singled out during the interview as one of the shop’s standout offerings — familiar enough to satisfy traditional pizza lovers, but distinctive enough to give customers something they may not find elsewhere.
At the same time, the pizzeria keeps much of its menu simple and accessible. Frank pointed to customer favorites including chicken bacon ranch, penne vodka, barbecue chicken, buffalo chicken and veggie pies, alongside the classic regular slice that remains a staple for walk-in customers.
Pearl River Pizzeria also offers catering, with trays of pasta, salads and entrees prepared to order. Frank said the restaurant tries to make events easier for customers by helping with the details that are sometimes overlooked elsewhere.
Among the catering options he highlighted were penne alla vodka, chef’s salad, garlic and oil, baked ziti, chicken parm, eggplant parm and eggplant rollatini. He added that the restaurant can also provide items such as utensils, plates and warming supplies when needed.
But beyond the food, Frank said the pizzeria’s real strength is the environment it tries to create.
“Great atmosphere, good music, always smiling,” he said. “My dad always told me, smile, greet the people. How are you? Thank you. Greet the people. Make them feel at home.”
That philosophy appears to resonate especially with local students and teachers, whom Frank described as some of the pizzeria’s biggest and most appreciated supporters. With schools nearby, the shop has become a gathering place where young people can stop in, eat and spend time in a safe, familiar environment.
“It’s really a cool place for the youth to come and hang out,” one interviewer observed during the conversation, noting the pizzeria’s homey feel, family-friendly vibe and touches of nostalgia throughout the dining room.
Inside, the restaurant mixes pizza-shop tradition with playful personality. There is music, television, artwork, arcade-style entertainment and decor that recalls older neighborhood slice shops while still feeling current. Frank said that balance is intentional.
The restaurant’s team also reflects that sense of community. Across the three related stores, Frank estimated there are roughly 20 to 25 employees, with staff members often helping one another when one location gets especially busy or short-handed.
For Frank, who started young and has spent much of his life in the business, success in a pizza shop comes down to a few simple things.
“You have to have dedication, patience, compassion and consistency,” he said.
Those values are evident in the way he works. During the interview, Frank repeatedly stepped away to help customers before smoothly returning to the conversation — a small but telling example of the hands-on service that defines the shop.
Pearl River Pizzeria delivers, offers catering and remains closed on Tuesdays. But its local identity may be its biggest draw: a place where regulars are treated like family, newcomers are encouraged to stay a while and the goal is not just to serve food, but to create a sense of home.
As Frank put it, customers should come by for the food, the music and the atmosphere — and because everyone is meant to feel welcome.
