(New City, NY) –During a special ceremony at the Rockland County District Attorney’s Office, District Attorney Thomas E. Walsh recognized several local law enforcement officers for their exceptional service and dedication to public safety in observance of National Police Week.
In honor of Peace Officers Memorial Day, which falls on May 15th each year, Walsh praised the courage, professionalism, and integrity of the men and women in law enforcement who serve and protect the community. He also paid tribute to those officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.
“Police Week is a time to recognize and honor the bravery of local, state, and federal officers who work tirelessly to keep our communities safe,” said District Attorney Walsh. “The work done by our local law enforcement partners in Rockland County is exemplary, and I am proud to acknowledge the dedicated efforts of our detectives here at the District Attorney’s Office.”
At the ceremony, Walsh presented several awards to officers who have gone above and beyond in their duties. Among the honorees were Detective Lieutenant Michael Duggan and Detective George del Fierro, both from the Special Investigation Unit of the Rockland County District Attorney’s Office. They received the Certificate of Excellent Police Work in Aid to Prosecution, an award recognizing their critical contributions to high-level investigations that directly supported the prosecution of complex cases.
The event marked a moment to reflect on the service and sacrifice of those in law enforcement, especially as National Police Week (May 11-17, 2025) serves as a national observance to honor all officers for their service. The District Attorney’s ceremony underscored the importance of collaboration between local agencies and the DA’s office in ensuring that the people of Rockland County are protected and served with the highest standards.
“Law enforcement officers are the backbone of our justice system,” Walsh said. “We are grateful for their service and honored to work alongside them in safeguarding our community.”
