Suffern, NY – Rockland Community College (RCC) has announced the launch of a new two-year Histotechnician program in collaboration with SUNY Cobleskill. This program, part of RCC’s School of STEM, allows students to complete core classes at RCC and finish their undergraduate degree with SUNY Cobleskill either on-campus or online, offering significant cost savings for local residents.
Histotechnicians play a vital role in healthcare and research by preparing tissue samples for microscopic examination, crucial for diagnosing diseases and conducting scientific research. The partnership provides students with an affordable pathway into this high-demand field, where the average starting salary in New York is $81,000. Employment in histotechnology is expected to grow by 13% by 2030.
“We’re excited to offer this new program with SUNY Cobleskill, giving students an affordable route to a rewarding career,” said Melanie Rie, RCC Dean of the School of STEM.
