Tom Walsh, a lifelong resident of Rockland County and a graduate of Fordham College and St. John’s University School of Law, boasts over four decades of legal experience, including 35 years in various judicial roles at the local, county, and state levels.
During DA Walsh’s initial term as District Attorney, his office collaborated with federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies to combat drug trafficking and the exploitation of minors. In 2022, a lengthy cybercrime operation, led by his office, targeted adults using the internet to meet minors in Rockland County, resulting in the arrest of seven individuals and one guilty plea. In 2020, under District Attorney Walsh’s leadership, the Rockland County District Attorney’s Office joined the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force, which focuses on identifying individuals attempting to lure children for sexual purposes or disseminating child sexual abuse material (CSAM).
In partnership with the New York State Attorney General and the Clarkstown Police Department, the Rockland County District Attorney’s Office hosted a “Gun Buyback” event in July 2021, successfully collecting 147 firearms, including handguns, rifles, shotguns, assault rifles, and non-working or antique guns. This initiative aimed to ensure that old or unused firearms were disposed of safely to prevent them from falling into the wrong hands.
In February 2022, the Rockland County District Attorney’s Office coordinated a large-scale law enforcement operation involving 12 local, county, and federal agencies. This operation executed three search warrants throughout Rockland County, resulting in the seizure of 13 illegal firearms and the arrest of four suspects. These firearms, known as “ghost guns,” are unserialized and untraceable weapons that can be purchased online and assembled at home.
Another noteworthy achievement was the inaugural legislative breakfast hosted by the Rockland County District Attorney’s Office, open to all elected officials in the county. This event provided a platform for elected officials to meet the dedicated men and women working in the District Attorney’s Office, learn about the various programs offered, gain insights into crime trends and statistics, and engage in informative discussions. This event is now held annually.
In February 2023, the Rockland County District Attorney’s Office Drug Task Force, in collaboration with the DEA, apprehended a Congers resident in possession of 5 kilograms of cocaine valued at an estimated $1.5 million. Additionally, investigators seized two firearms, $23,000 in cash, marijuana, and THC-infused products resembling common candies.
Throughout his tenure, District Attorney Walsh prioritized community involvement. His office actively participated in street fairs, meetings, and various county events, facilitating interactions between the public and the dedicated professionals at the Rockland County District Attorney’s Office.
District Attorney Walsh, accompanied by his partner Zahira Rodriguez, was sworn into office by Rockland County Clerk Donna Gorman-Silberman.
