Rockland County officials are inviting residents to participate in a virtual public information session to discuss the future of water resource management. The Rockland Task Force on Water Resources Management (RCWTF) is hosting the session on Thursday, February 20, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM via Microsoft Teams. The session is part of an ongoing effort to engage the community in shaping a sustainable and actionable County Water Plan.
Since December 2024, the Water Task Force has collaborated with the Environmental Committee of the Legislature, county agencies, the Office of the County Executive, and former Task Force members to assess priorities and plan future initiatives. Now, the Task Force is extending its outreach to residents and previous subcommittee members, encouraging them to share their perspectives on local water issues.
Legislator Beth Davidson, Chair of the Task Force, emphasized the importance of public engagement in the planning process. “Community input will be critical as we work to create a sustainable water management plan,” Davidson said. “Water quality and availability affect everyone in Rockland County, and we encourage residents to share their concerns and priorities.”
County Executive Ed Day echoed this sentiment, stressing the significance of water resources to both public health and economic stability. “A reliable water supply is essential to Rockland County’s future,” Day stated. “We urge residents to stay involved—your ideas and input are vital to the success of this initiative.”
The Water Task Force has been actively engaging with the public through presentations and outreach events. On December 10, 2024, Task Force representatives provided an update to the Legislature’s Environmental Committee, outlining past accomplishments and future goals. The presentation, which is available online, highlighted efforts to improve water conservation, address supply challenges, and develop policies that support long-term water sustainability.
In addition to the upcoming virtual session, the Task Force is conducting a user engagement survey to collect feedback from residents and past Task Force members. The survey aims to identify public priorities and will help shape the 2025-2026 Annual Plan of Work. Residents have until March 1, 2025, at 5:00 PM to submit their responses.
To increase public awareness, the Water Task Force has also launched social media accounts on LinkedIn and Facebook, where residents can stay informed about upcoming events, conservation strategies, and other water-related initiatives.
Those interested in participating in the February 20 virtual information session can register by contacting Nicole Laible, Coordinator of the Water Task Force, at Rocklandwatertf@co.rockland.ny.us.
