STONY POINT, NY – Residents of Stony Point are invited to attend an informational session tonight, Tuesday, July 23, 2024, from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Rose Memorial Library (RML). No registration is required.
The session will provide an opportunity for community members to learn more about the proposed construction of a new library facility and the funding measures required to support it. Attendees will be able to gather feedback, ask questions, and discuss the plans with the library staff.
Earlier this month, on July 5, the Board of Rose Memorial Library Association approved a petition to put a measure on the November 5 ballot. This measure seeks additional funding for the library through a one-time increase of $1,100,000, establishing an ongoing annual operating budget of $1,425,000 from the Town of Stony Point. The amount is 25.5% less than the previous request made in 2022.
If approved, the funds will be used for constructing and operating a new, larger library at 79 East Main Street in Stony Point, along with rental and moving costs during construction, debt service, and proper operation of the new facility through 2034. The new library will be fully ADA-accessible and feature various amenities, including a safe space for tweens and teens, a meeting room for community groups, outdoor learning spaces, a local history archive, an early literacy space for young children, quiet study rooms, and an experiential learning studio.
For specific home values, residents can refer to the 2024 Final Assessment Roll available on the Town of Stony Point’s website.
The construction and operation of the new library depend on the approval of this funding in the November public vote. The first step is to collect at least 25 signatures from registered Stony Point voters to qualify the measure for the ballot. Petitions will be circulated throughout July.
Additional community meetings have already taken place on July 11 and July 19, with tonight’s session being the final opportunity to participate. For more information, residents can visit the FAQ page on the Rose Memorial Library’s website or view the conceptual plans and renderings of the proposed library.
