POMONA, NY— Detective John Salmon with the Ramapo Police Department was honored this week for his role in a joint investigation that led to the arrest and federal conviction of multiple suspects in a violent home invasion in Chestnut Ridge.
Salmon was recognized Tuesday night during the Rockland County Police Benevolent Association awards ceremony for his work on the case, which culminated in the conviction of the final defendant in federal court in White Plains several months ago.
Authorities said the suspects forced their way into a residence in Chestnut Ridge in what investigators described as a premeditated attack. The assailants were armed with a baseball bat, a knife and a firearm. No additional details about injuries were immediately available.
The defendants were prosecuted in federal court, with convictions that included charges under the Hobbs Act, a federal statute that addresses robbery and extortion affecting interstate commerce.
The investigation was conducted in coordination with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York. Officials said the collaboration among local and federal agencies contributed to the successful prosecution of the case.
Salmon was joined at the ceremony by Detective Lt. Franklin, Officer O’Connor and Chief Daniel Hyman, who attended on behalf of the department.
Law enforcement officials said the recognition highlights the importance of interagency cooperation and investigative work in addressing violent crime in the region.
