Nanuet, NY – New York State Senator Bill Weber (R-38) has co-sponsored two important bills aimed at protecting and improving access to In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) for individuals and couples looking to start families.
The first bill, S.8626, sponsored by Senator Martins, safeguards IVF treatment providers, fertility doctors, and patients from criminal and civil liability. It also shields providers of goods used in the IVF process by establishing a new section in the Public Health Law, ensuring that any fertilized human egg or embryo existing outside a woman’s uterus will not be considered an unborn child or human being under any circumstances.
The second bill, S.9888, sponsored by Senator Ashby, creates a tax credit for up to three cycles of IVF treatment to assist with the expenses related to infertility treatments.
“These bills are very personal to me,” said Senator Weber. “My wife and I went through the pain of two ectopic pregnancies after our first daughter, Rachel. Thanks to IVF, we were able to have Billy, Amy, and Michael. I understand firsthand how critical it is to ensure access to reproductive healthcare treatments like IVF. I look forward to seeing these bills pass through the legislative process and become law, giving families the opportunity to grow.”
Senator Weber’s personal experience highlights the importance of expanding access to reproductive healthcare, ensuring that other families facing infertility challenges can benefit from the same treatments that helped him and his family.
