State Senator James Skoufis (D-Orange County) announced that he has received the formal endorsement of the New York State AFL-CIO, the nation’s largest state labor federation with 3,000 affiliates and over 2.5 million members.
“I am thrilled to earn the backing of New York’s biggest force in union labor,” said Skoufis. “The millions of members, retirees, and families represented by the AFL-CIO are the beating heart of our state’s economy – supporting our classrooms, job sites, public offices, and so much more. I am fired up to continue working collaboratively with them on behalf of working men and women in my next two years in the State Senate.”
“On behalf of the more than 100,000 working men and women of the Hudson Valley Area-Labor Federation, we are more than excited to support our friend Senator Skoufis for re-election,” noted HVALF President Sparrow Tobin. “He has been an unwavering ally of organized labor throughout his distinguished career in the state legislature and we’re thrilled to continue our partnership with him. He is a true champion for working families.”
As the son of a union postal worker, Senator Skoufis has been an ardent supporter of union organizing since his early days in public service. In 2021, he successfully secured new state budget funding to bring a construction laborers’ pre-apprenticeship program to the Hudson Valley, focused on bringing underrepresented communities into the trades. He’s been an outspoken advocate for new organizing efforts by the Hudson Valley News Guild, Amazon workers, and others.
