Nyack, NY — The Snow Emergency remains in effect in the Village of Nyack as Department of Public Works crews continue around-the-clock efforts to clear streets following the Blizzard of ’26.
Village officials announced Tuesday that while most streets are now passable, many remain slushy or slippery. Plows will continue operating throughout the day as crews work to widen roadways and remove accumulated snow.
Parking Restrictions and Towing Enforcement
Residents are reminded that parking is permitted in cleared metered areas downtown — even though those locations fall within the Snow Emergency Zone. However, officials stress that vehicles should not be parked elsewhere within the zone to allow plows to complete cleanup operations.
Alternate Side Parking was in effect Monday night and may be lifted Tuesday evening to allow plows to clear sides of streets that have remained obstructed by parked cars since Sunday. Officials advise residents to stay tuned for updates.
In addition, new overnight parking restrictions go into effect tonight (2/24/26) on streets outside the Snow Emergency Zone, including:
- Washington Street
- Summit Street
- Burd Street
- Jackson Avenue
- Depew Avenue (from Franklin Street to South Midland Avenue)
- North Mill Street
- South Mill Street
- Prospect Street
- South Midland Avenue
Vehicles left on posted streets overnight may be towed, officials warned. Free overnight parking remains available at the Artopee public lot, the Marina lots, and Main Street municipal lots.
Snow Removal Reminders for Residents
Village leaders are asking residents and property owners to assist in the cleanup effort by:
- Clearing sidewalks promptly to ensure safe passage for pedestrians, including children, seniors, and residents with disabilities.
- Removing snow and ice from curb cuts, crosswalk access points, and around fire hydrants.
- Avoiding shoveling snow back into cleared roadways, which can create hazards and delay plowing progress.
- Using sand or ice melt responsibly to reduce environmental impact.
- When clearing driveways, placing snow to the right side of the driveway entrance to prevent plows from pushing snow back across the opening.
The next garbage pickup is scheduled for Thursday morning.
Community Support Efforts
Officials are also encouraging neighbors to help one another through the village’s “Neighbors Helping Neighbors” initiative. Residents who need assistance with snow removal — or who wish to volunteer or offer low-cost help — can register at nyack.link/snowhelp.
Adding a touch of winter fun amid the cleanup, two sleds — one pink and one green — have been placed at Memorial Park for public use. Residents are asked to return the sleds after use so others may enjoy them throughout the week.
