The passing was a result of a non-hostile medical episode that occurred on March 6th, 2026. This story is developing.
Clarkstown, NY – A Clarkstown resident who served both with the New York City Police Department and the Army National Guard died Friday after suffering a medical emergency while deployed to Kuwait, according to officials.
Officer Sorffly Davius, assigned to the NYPD’s 79th Precinct in Bedford-Stuyvesant, was also a major in the Army National Guard. Officials said he died at Camp Buehring while supporting the U.S. mission overseas on or about March 6th, 2026.
Davius’ death has already drawn tributes from city and state leaders, who remembered him as a public servant devoted to both his community and his country.
“His career was defined by service — to his country and to New York City,” Mayor Zohran Mamdani and Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said in a joint statement.
Gov. Kathy Hochul also issued a statement Saturday night mourning the loss of Davius, calling him a “Citizen Soldier” in every sense.
“A dedicated NYPD officer and decorated Army veteran, he spent his career protecting others,” Hochul said. “Before his overseas deployment, he served with distinction on Joint Task Force Empire Shield, defending the state’s most high-profile locations from threats.”
Hochul also noted that Davius was a husband and father, and said she has personally conveyed condolences to his wife.
The NYPD and National Guard have not released additional details about the medical emergency. But those who knew Davius have already begun to pay tribute. Davius is being remembered for a life of service that spanned local law enforcement and military duty.
