St. Thomas Aquinas College in Sparkill, New York, has unveiled its latest initiative aimed at enhancing STEM education: the STEM Adjunct Faculty Academy. This new program invites seasoned professionals from the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics to contribute their knowledge and expertise as part-time adjunct faculty members.
President Ken Daly, who brings over 25 years of experience as an adjunct professor, expressed his enthusiasm for the program: “At St. Thomas Aquinas College, we are privileged to have a skilled faculty, and now we are excited to expand this group with professionals who can bring real-world perspectives to our academic environment. Their contribution will be invaluable in unlocking new discoveries and preparing our students for future successes in STEM fields.”
The STEM Adjunct Faculty Academy is specifically designed to prepare these professionals for a successful transition into academia. The program includes a series of three intensive sessions, each lasting 90 minutes, scheduled to take place on the college’s campus on June 11, 18, and 25, 2024, from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM. These sessions will provide necessary tools and insights to enhance teaching effectiveness, ensuring that participants can deliver impactful and engaging classroom experiences.
Dr. Bianca Wentzell, Dean of the School of STEM at St. Thomas Aquinas, highlighted the importance of these sessions: “Our goal is to bridge the gap between industry expertise and academic instruction. We are committed to providing our adjunct faculty with the pedagogical tools they need to foster a dynamic educational environment and inspire our students.”
Applications for the STEM Adjunct Faculty Academy are open until May 20, 2024. Interested candidates should possess at least a Master’s degree in a relevant STEM field, though all passionate professionals with relevant experience are encouraged to apply. While participation in the academy is free, it does not guarantee subsequent employment.

In addition to opportunities in STEM, St. Thomas Aquinas College is also seeking adjunct faculty for its other academic divisions, including the School of Arts & Social Sciences, School of Business, and School of Education. Interested candidates for these areas should contact Christine Smith in the Provost’s Office.
This initiative not only signifies St. Thomas Aquinas College’s commitment to excellence in STEM education but also fosters a collaborative environment where professional experience meets academic rigor, setting the stage for the next generation of leaders and innovators.
