Suffern, NY — A tense situation unfolded early on July 22, 2025, at a residence on Kensico Ct. when a 25-year-old man, armed with a knife, barricaded himself in a bathroom after threatening to harm both his family and law enforcement officers. The incident began at approximately 9:50 AM when the Suffern Police Department received a call from the subject’s mother, who reported that her son was breaking items inside the home.
Upon arrival, officers met the mother outside the residence, where she revealed that her son had held a large knife to her throat and threatened to kill both her and himself. As police began assessing the situation, the father of the subject informed them that his son was still armed and that both he and his other son were inside the home.
Officers quickly gained entry to the residence, allowing the brother to safely exit, but the subject barricaded himself inside the bathroom and refused to comply with requests to surrender. While inside, the man opened the bathroom window and made several threats toward the officers, stating that he would “shoot it out” with them if they attempted to enter.
As the situation escalated, a perimeter was set around the residence with the help of the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office and the Ramapo Police Department. Given the severity of the threat, the Rockland County React Team (SWAT team) was called in to assist with the situation.
After approximately 2.5 hours of negotiation with the subject, the React team successfully convinced him to surrender. He exited the bathroom without incident and was taken into custody by Suffern Police, with no injuries reported to the subject or any officers involved.
The man is currently in custody and awaiting arraignment on several charges, including Criminal Mischief, Menacing, and Criminal Possession of a Weapon.
The Suffern Police Department expressed gratitude to the Rockland County React Team, Ramapo Police Department, Rockland County Sheriff’s Office, as well as Rockland Paramedic Service and Faist Ambulance Corps for their assistance in resolving the situation safely.
