Tallman, NY — Authorities are investigating a suspected secret laboratory discovered Thursday at a residence in Tallman in the town of Ramapo, prompting a large emergency response and a temporary road closure, police said.
The Ramapo Police Department said officers were notified around 11 a.m. March 5 by the Rockland County Department of Health about a possible clandestine lab at a home located at 3 Dalewood Drive.
Responding officers arrived at the scene and confirmed the presence of suspicious materials inside the residence, according to police.
Additional agencies were called in to assist, including the Tallman Fire Department, the Rockland County Hazmat Team and the Bureau of Criminal Investigation of the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities closed Dalewood Drive near Highview Road while the hazardous materials team evaluated the scene and conducted an assessment of the substances found inside the home.
Police said the Hazmat team determined at about 6 p.m. that the area was safe, allowing the roadway to reopen.
Officials have not released further details about the materials discovered or whether any charges are expected. Detectives with the Ramapo Police Department are continuing to investigate.
