Spring Valley, NY – Alan Abad, also known as “Alina Abad,” a 19-year-old resident of Westwood, New Jersey, was arraigned on Monday, February 25, 2025, on charges of first-degree murder and two counts of second-degree murder in connection with the brutal killings of his two aunts in Spring Valley, Rockland County. If convicted, Abad faces a maximum sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.
The Rockland County Grand Jury indicted Abad following an investigation into the deaths of Evelyn Aguilar-Agustin and Anabelly Aguilar, which occurred on February 15, 2025, at their home on Gesner Drive in Spring Valley. According to prosecutors, Abad allegedly inflicted fatal blunt force trauma to his aunts, causing severe head, neck, and abdominal injuries.
Rockland County District Attorney Thomas E. Walsh II expressed his condolences to the victims’ family and emphasized his office’s commitment to seeking justice. “The victims, who were aunts of the defendant, were brutally and senselessly murdered. We will seek justice for the victims and their families,” said Walsh.
The arraignment took place in Rockland County Court before Judge Kevin F. Russo, who ordered Abad to be remanded without bail to the Rockland County Jail. The prosecution team includes Deputy Chief Assistant District Attorney Dominic A. Crispino, Executive Assistant District Attorney Matthew Martinez, and Supervising Assistant District Attorney Meghan Garvey.
The case has garnered attention due to the violent nature of the alleged crimes and the familial relationship between the defendant and the victims. As the legal process unfolds, authorities are expected to present further evidence and insights into the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.
Abad’s next court appearance is anticipated in the coming weeks, with the Rockland County District Attorney’s Office preparing to present a comprehensive case to ensure accountability for the heinous act.
