By Cesar A. — Restaurant Reviewer for Rockland News
After a long winter traveling to the farthest reaches of the earth, sampling the most delectable gourmet delicacies known to humankind, I have returned at last to Rockland County. I have tasted mysterious broths in windswept mountain villages, pastries so delicate they seemed assembled by watchmakers, and coffees served with the solemnity of royal coronations.
And now, with the seriousness this assignment deserves, I have compared all of that to the new Tim Hortons on Route 9W in Stony Point.
Reader, I was not disappointed.
Here, then, are ten things you may not have known about the food and beverages available at Tim Hortons — or, at the very least, ten things worth knowing before your next coffee run.
1. The coffee has a built-in reputation for freshness.
Tim Hortons describes its Original Blend coffee as brewed fresh every 20 minutes, which is exactly the kind of promise that makes a weary commuter believe civilization may yet endure. The company also highlights a broad beverage lineup that includes cold brew with cold foam, hot and iced lattes, the famous Iced Capp, Refreshers, and other cold drinks.
2. Timbits are not merely donut holes. They are a social strategy.
Yes, Timbits are bite-sized. But they are also the diplomatic solution to every office meeting, family errand, and “I only wanted one little treat” situation. Tim Hortons specifically spotlights assorted Timbits among its featured items, with favorites including Glazed, Chocolate Glazed, and Birthday Cake.
3. Breakfast is not an afterthought here.
The chain leans heavily into breakfast sandwiches, including hot breakfast sandwiches on a croissant, and describes them as made with freshly cracked eggs. For those who believe the morning should begin with coffee and something warm, buttery, and portable, this is strong evidence that breakfast at Tim Hortons is not just a menu category — it is a mission.
4. The baked goods are doing a lot of heavy lifting for local morale.
Donuts, muffins, cookies, bagels, and other baked goods remain central to the Tim Hortons identity. The company’s public menu descriptions repeatedly emphasize donuts, baked goods, and breakfast staples, which is good news for anyone who has ever entered a coffee shop intending to order “just a small coffee” and left with a box.

5. The new Stony Point location is convenient, but the food lineup is bigger than many people expect.
Tim Hortons is often thought of first as a coffee-and-donut stop, but the company also lists sandwiches, wraps, soups, chili, and breakfast items among its core food offerings. In other words, the new Route 9W shop is not just for caffeine emergencies; it also fits breakfast runs, lunch stops, and the noble pursuit of baked goods under a flimsy excuse.
6. There is an app, and it is designed to make impulsive snack decisions even more efficient.
Tim Hortons promotes its app as a way to order ahead, save time, and earn rewards. That means your coffee can be waiting, your breakfast can be premeditated, and your pastry decisions can be made with the cold precision of modern technology. (Tim Hortons Locations)
7. The rewards program gives regulars a reason to become very regular.
Tim Hortons’ Tims Rewards program says customers can earn points through eligible purchases, and the company’s official materials describe members earning 10 points for every dollar spent. That may not sound dramatic, but in the hands of a determined coffee drinker, it becomes a lifestyle.
8. Catering exists, which means your meeting can now arrive with Timbits.
This is a public service. Tim Hortons offers catering with pre-built platters or build-your-own options, including baked goods, lunch items, and drinks, with sizes built for groups of 6 or 12 and orders that can be placed in advance. Office managers, youth sports organizers, and anyone hoping to become mysteriously popular by 9 a.m. should take note.
9. Tim Hortons has history — a lot more than many people realize.
The chain began in 1964 in Hamilton, Ontario, founded by hockey legend Tim Horton and later expanded by Ron Joyce. Over time it grew into one of Canada’s largest quick-service restaurant chains, with thousands of locations and an identity that long ago transcended mere coffee counter status. So yes, your Stony Point cup comes with a side of North American fast-food history.
10. The company’s community involvement is part of the brand, not just the brochure.
Tim Hortons publicly highlights its community initiatives and support for Tim Hortons Foundation Camps, and the brand has long carried a reputation — especially in Canada — as a community fixture as much as a restaurant chain. That makes the Stony Point location feel less like just another storefront and more like the kind of place built for quick breakfasts, youth team pit stops, neighborhood coffee habits, and the occasional philosophical debate over which Timbit is superior.
In the end, after my winter of globe-spanning culinary fieldwork, I can report the following with complete professional integrity: the new Tim Hortons in Stony Point understands the ancient and noble relationship between coffee, baked goods, and human happiness. It offers the classics people expect, enough breakfast and lunch variety to keep things interesting, a modern app and rewards system for the efficient among us, and catering for those moments when one’s personal appetite becomes a group project.
For Stony Point residents rolling down Route 9W in search of caffeine, comfort food, or a box of Timbits that will absolutely be “for sharing,” this is very good news.
And after all my travels, I can say this: sometimes the farthest reaches of the earth are impressive. But sometimes the best thing you can find is much closer to home — with coffee, a donut, and maybe a breakfast croissant waiting at the window.
Tim Horton’s is located at 180 S Liberty Drive, in Stony Point. That’s Route 9W, in case you were unaware. And after your visit…don’t forget to visit Rock’s Kitchen, just down the hill from Tim Horton’s, for the freshest smoothie you’ll ever have.
