STONY POINT, N.Y. โ A Tomkins Cove woman has been arrested in connection with a string of vehicle break-ins reported in a Stony Point neighborhood late last month, according to the Stony Point Police Department.
Elizabeth Martello, 34, has been charged with multiple counts of criminal possession of stolen property in the fourth and fifth degrees. Her arrest follows a weeklong investigation into a series of thefts from vehicles on November 25.
Police say the first call came in around 6:15 a.m. that day, and over the next several hours, seven residents from a neighborhood off South Liberty Drive reported that items had been taken from their cars. Officers obtained several home security videos showing a suspect entering vehicles and removing property.
Investigators linked Martello to the thefts with assistance from the Haverstraw Police Department, which had recently taken her into custody in connection with similar larcenies in that area. As Stony Point officers continued gathering footage and interviewing residents, they obtained clear video from the Stony Point Budget Motor Inn showing Martello in possession of items reported stolen earlier that morning. Police say she had been staying at the motel with a suspect previously arrested in connection with the same series of thefts.
On December 2, at approximately 8:25 a.m., officers spotted Martello on North Liberty Drive in Tomkins Cove and took her into custody. She was transported to police headquarters, processed, and arraigned in Stony Point Justice Court. Martello was remanded to the Rockland County Jail on $250 bail due to an active bench warrant and multiple prior failures to appear in court, police said.
She is scheduled to return to court on December 9 at 2 p.m. The investigation remains ongoing.
