Stony Point, NY – The United Women of Rockland held a Breast Cancer Awareness fundraising event on Friday, January 30, at Olive’s in the Village of Nyack. The event combined live music, raffles, and community fundraising to support local women undergoing treatment for breast cancer and other serious illnesses.
The fundraiser ran from early evening through late night and featured multiple live musical performances. Bands scheduled throughout the night included Tone Contract, Blue Smoke, Out of Time, and Cabin Fever. Attendees had access to Olive’s full bar and menu while supporting the cause through raffle ticket sales, merchandise purchases, and a 50/50 drawing.
During the event, United Women of Rockland board member Fiona Parahus spoke with Rockland News about the organization’s mission and the purpose of the fundraiser. Parahus noted strong attendance, ongoing raffle activity, and the role of community sponsors in making the event possible.
Parahus emphasized that United Women of Rockland provides confidential assistance to women and families facing financial strain while dealing with serious medical diagnoses. The organization helps with everyday expenses such as groceries, school supplies, and family-related costs during treatment and recovery, particularly when illness limits a person’s ability to work.

Donated raffle items included gift baskets and merchandise from local businesses such as Tia Maria Boutique in New City, Laraza, Alfredo’s, and Gary’s Gutter Service.
During the event, at specific break times, the volunteers announced winners of cash prizes, gift baskets and other goodies.
