Rockland

Early morning on Saturday, an 18-wheeler truck jackknifed on Route 287, the New York State Thruway, headed eastbound in Rockland County. The eastbound lane was shut down for many hours. The driver needed to be extracted. More news will be occurring on this matter, and we will notify you of the status as we learn more about this. If you are commuting this morning, it is best to avoid eastbound Route 287 in Rockland County for the next several hours, at least.

- 🧩 Clarkstown opened the 8,000 sq ft Councilman Mark Woods All-Inclusive Playground at Zukor Park. The facility includes features like a wheelchair-accessible merry-go-round and a nonverbal communication board. Woods’s family and local leaders attended the ribbon-cutting, honoring his legacy of service and accessibility.
Haverstraw
- 🚩 Haverstraw commemorated Juneteenth with a flag-raising ceremony organized by Ginny Norfleet and the Haverstraw African American Connection. Leaders and residents gathered to mark the day with dignity and unity.
- 🎊 The Haverstraw African American Connection continues Juneteenth observances with a weekend of celebration at Haverstraw African-American Memorial Park. Friday features music and food at G’s Juke Joint; Saturday brings a street festival with live performances, vendors, and a kid’s zone.
Orangetown
- 🌳 Orangetown is pushing again for approval of its Community Preservation Fund to help conserve open space. The bill has passed the state legislature and now awaits the Governor’s signature. Residents are urged to call (518) 474-8390 to show support.
- 🇺🇸 Supervisor Teresa Kenny joined Senator Bill Weber at the Veterans Appreciation Dinner, leading the Pledge of Allegiance. The event honored local veterans including the late Councilman Mark Woods.
Ramapo
- 🏅 In honor of Juneteenth, Supervisor Michael Specht and the Town Board presented JAMCCAR with a proclamation celebrating the group’s 35th anniversary and cultural contributions. The ceremony highlighted unity and recognition in Rockland County.
