(ROCKLAND COUNTY) AUGUST 23, 2022 – Returning to school each fall is a source of stress and anxiety for many students and their families. To help them prepare for the coming school year, the Rockland Behavioral Health Response Team (BHRT) will host a free Zoom session on Tuesday, September 20th at 7 pm with helpful tips for parents and school administrators, counselors, and teachers.
Tara Brock, BHRT’s Home-Based Crisis Intervention Coordinator for Rockland County, will discuss ways of establishing routines and setting kids up for success. “Time management—understanding scheduling and planning ahead for homework, sports and other activities—is a critical component in helping students start the year out right,” she says. “Teaching kids simple coping skills can help them deal with anxiety and stress, giving them the tools they need to succeed.” Other topics include how to maintain a positive outlook, making good social choices, communication, and preparation along with suggestions for daily and weekend family activities.
Brock received her MA in Counseling Psychology with a Concentration in Mental Health from the College of Saint Elizabeth in Morristown, NJ. Previously, she was an intensive in-community therapist, working with families and children in their homes. She has also worked as a psychotherapist in a private practice, providing outpatient services to individuals presenting with various diagnoses.
