A legendary comedian with roots here in Rockland has died. Fred Kirschenbaum, better known as Freddie Roman, was a Borscht Belt staple for years and was head of the Friars Club in the city. When he was 15, he got his start at the Crystal Spring Hotel in the Catskills, which was owned by his uncle and grandfather. He was perhaps best known for his role in the Broadway show, Catskills on Broadway. He was 85.
